TBILISI, DFWatch — New candidates have been unveiled for deputy ministers in the new government.

Despite an offer from Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili to previous deputy ministers that they may remain in their positions, only a few of them have stayed.

Those are Nikoloz Vashakidze, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister and Tamar Beruchashvili, Deputy State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

A week ago, the new parliament approved the prime minister and the rest of the ministers. For the last few days new deputy ministers have been named.

Deputy Ministers at law enforcement bodies have changed. Interior Minister will have six deputies: Lasha Natsvlishvili, who will be first deputy minister. In 1990-99 he used to work at Georgia’s Prosecutor Office; in 1999-2001 he worked at Special Security Service of the State, 2001-2003 – he was Deputy Security Minister, twice have been MP. Levan Izoria, became PhD of Law in 2002 in Germany. In 2004-2006 he used to be rector of police academy and his name is related to successful reform of the police. Gela Khvedelidze used to work during 1993-2004 on different positions at law enforcement bodies, including Interior Ministry and Prison Ministry; he used to be MP. Alexandre Tabatadze worked at Interior Ministry from 1991 to 2008. Alexy Batiashvili worked at security bodies during 1995-2004. He has chaired Samkharauli Forensic Bureau. Davit Tsintsaradze will chair police department, who used to work at the same body. Since 1997 he used to be investigator and also deputy director of police department.

Head of the Border Security Department has also been considered as Deputy Interior Minister, but this position is still vacant.

The Defense Minister will have three deputies: Levan Dolidze will be first deputy and parliamentary secretary of the ministry. He was member of Levan Mikeladze foundation, which was set up a few years ago, when Levan Mikeladze died. Levan Mikeladze was a diplomat and member of Free Democrats Party. Foundation follows scientific activities.

Alexnadre Burchuladze will be another deputy defense minister who will chair financial issues, while Irakli Gegechkori will work on security issues. He used to be Chair of Board of Directors at Intelligence Service.

It is still unknown who will chair Georgia’s Armed Forces Headquarters. Irakli Alasania, new Defense Minister, says there are consultations in progress on this issue. In the near future it will become known if the name and structure of this body will change and who will chair it.

Currently Giorgi Kalandadze chairs this body, who was appointed by the president in the beginning of October. The Chair of the Armed Forces Headquarters is appointed by Georgia’s Commander in Chief, the President.

Deputy Justice Ministers are not known yet. The Justice Minister can have five deputies, but previous minister used to have four and it was said that the ministry will continue with the same arrangement. Two deputies have already been appointed – Davit Jandieri and Alexandre Baramidze.

Davit Jandieri has a PhD level in International Public Law at Robert Schuman University of Strasbourg; Masters degree at Strasbourg University of European Education School in Human Rights European Law. He is an honorable citizen of Columbia, US.

The other deputy, Alexandre Baramidze, is one of the lawyers defending Bidzina Ivanishvili in a number of courts that took place after the businessman decided to go into politics.

The process of naming staff at other ministries is almost finished, but certain restaffing decisions are yet to be done.
