The election winner in Georgia’s first visit abroad will be to the U.S., probably after the U.S. presidential election.

Bidzina Ivanishvili told journalists Wednesday that the U.S. ambassador to Georgia had delivered him a formal invitation to the U.S. He met Ambassador Richard Norland Wednesday morning.

The Georgian Dream leader says he accepts the invitation and that it is a great honor, but considering that there is a presidential election in the US and people’s attention will be focused on this, he asks to go to the U.S. after the presidential election there is over.

“It is already decided that my first visit will be to Washington,” he said, adding that he has received invitations from EU leaders – from Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. But the specific dates of his visits to the EU are not yet known.

Ivanishvili said he has not received congratulations from Russia.
