TBILISI, DFWatch–Less than three months before the presidential election, the Georgian Dream coalition is working on improving the election legislation, and has introduced five sets of amendments.

According to the draft of the amendments, voters who were taken off the voters’ list because of a change of address will be allowed to vote.

Around 97 000 persons have been removed from the voters’ list because they moved. They will now be able to vote on October 27 if they register with their new address by October 10.

One other set of amendments involves restrictions on the use of administrative resources during the election campaign. According to the new draft, the inter-agency commission, which works on election issues will be subordinate to the Ministry of Justice instead of the National Security Council, as it is now.

MPs will also debate about a new regulation by which an election subject who wins more than 10 percent of votes will receive one million GEL (USD 600 000) from the state budget.

Parliament will review these and other amendments to the election legislation from Tuesday, but since this is the last week of the summer sessions, lawmakers plan to continue the debate at special sessions in a sped-up time schedule before the election.
