TBILISI, DFWatch – The largest opposition coalition in Georgia will no longer be allowed to receive donations from persons who partly or fully receive financing from its leader Bidzina Ivanishvili or companies related to him.

The State Audit Office informs that Georgian Dream exceeded the 500 000 lari limit, nearly USD 305 000, the maximum amount of donation allowed. The Georgian Dream coalition now has five day to eliminate this violation.

According to Georgian legislation, if donating persons fully or partly receive financing from one source, then they have a limit of 500 000 lari on donations to a political subject. A person cannot donate more than 60 000 lari, or USD 36 600.

If the donating person, or the party receiving the donation, didn’t know about this regulation, they have five days to eliminate the violation and return the money.

According to the State Audit Office, Georgian Dream already exceeded the 500 000 lari limit on receiving from one source and has received 623 858 75 lari of donations in total. The exceeding amount is 123 858 lari. The office recommends Georgian Dream to return this amount to the ones who donated.

The State Audit Office informed about this violation to all persons who are involved in donating to Georgian Dream, also persons who partly or fully receive financing from Bidzina Ivanishvili or companies related to him.
