Residents of Ninigori demand running water. (Interpressnews.)

TBILISI, DFWatch–Locals demonstrated in an eastern Georgian village on Monday, demanding to get running water installed.

People living in the village Ninigori in the Lagodekhi region claim they have been without running water for more than 20 years.

During all this time, they have had to bring water from several kilometers away.

They say that the well which is used as the village’s water supply has dried out due to a drought.

Villagers say they have complained many times to the local government, but no-one ever paid attention to their problem.

Local media report that during the demonstration, Goderdzi Bakradze, head of the local assembly, came and said that he hasn’t been told about the problem. He promised to study the issue and solve it through the local municipality.

Villagers plan to go to Georgia’s capital Tbilisi and protest outside the office of the prime minister, if their water problem isn’t solved.
