TBILISI, DFWatch–Parliament is considering introducing a ban on children accessing porn websites.

Dimitri Khundadze, head of the parliamentary committee on healthcare and social issues, suggests creating a commission to craft a draft law. He believes children these days are too active on in Internet and must be protected from danger.

“By danger I mean porn sites and easy access to those websites,” he said on Tuesday.

Websites which are ‘harmful’ for children must be blocked, he added.

Another part of the proposal is to create a payment system to charge adults for viewing porn online.

Khundadze’s bill is called Safe Internet for Children and aims at eliminating the risks connected with unrestricted access to porn websites, possible fake transactions and risks related to the safety of personal information.

“Things which are illegal outside of the Internet have to be illegal on the Internet as well,” he said, adding that he checked for information in European countries and discovered that most of them have regulations that are about ensuring that the Internet is safe for children.

“We believe that this issue is particularly important for society today, as the development of technologies should not harm the most precarious among us. Correct development of children and their protection from risks.”

At the end of the hearing in the healthcare committee, a working group was set up. It includes representatives from the justice and health ministries, representatives from the National Communication Commission, the committee itself as well as the economy, judiciary and human rights committees.
