Georgia to launch Facebook page in Abkhazian language

TBILISI, DFWatch–The government in Georgia is preparing to start a Facebook page that will offer information about its activities in the Abkhazian language.

Abkhazia is one of two Georgian breakaway regions under Russian control. The previous government also took steps to protect the Abkhazian language and culture, while the media in Abkhazia writes that the Abkhazian language is being lost because of the strong Russian influence in the region.

According to the its press office, the new Facebook page will be updated with news about the Georgian government’s activities in the Abkhazian language.

The official website of the government is translated to Abkhazian as well, and the Facebook page comes in addition to this.

Facebook has recently become one of the major sources of news and information for people in Georgia. People read, share and discuss ongoing political or other events on Facebook.
