TBILISI, DFWatch — Georgia will continue its participation in the NATO-led ISAF operation in Afghanistan also after 2014.

Foreign Affairs Minister Maia Panjikidze said this while briefing David Lidington, the UK’s Minister of State for Europe, about the Georgian government’s official position regarding participation in ISAF operation.

The minister said Georgia is ready to be involved in NATO operations beyond 2014 in a format which NATO partner countries agree on.

Maia Panjikidze said after the meeting with David Lidington that this is the first visit of another country’s foreign minister to Georgia after the election and that this was a very important meeting.

They discussed several issues, including foreign policy priorities, Georgia’s aspirations to NATO and EU integration.

The minister said they also spoke about Georgia’s relations with Russia, defense cooperation, and the situation in the Middle East, as well as UK-Georgia relations.
