TBILISI, DFWatch – Georgia recorded a record number of visitors entering the country in January 2012.

According to data from the Border Guard Department and the National Administration of Tourism, 227 006 international travelers entered the country in January, which is 41% more compared to the same period last year.

The number of visitors from neighboring countries is steadily increasing by an average rate of 37%.

93 616 of people who visited Georgia in January came from Turkey, 36 856 from Armenia, 58 698 from Azerbaijan, 17 227 from Russia, 3 423 from Ukraine, 2 411 from Iran, 1 853 from USA, 981 from 981, 897 from Kazakhstan, 878 from Greece.

This is the official number of people entering the country. The Georgian government, however, defines all of them as tourists.

There are several winter resorts in Georgia, including Gudauri, Bakuriani and Svaneti, but there is no available statistic about how many tourists visited these places.
