TBILISI, DFWatch – National Security Council Secretary Giga Bokeria, who was involved in the Swiss meditated talks between Russia and Georgia regarding Russia’s WTO membership, claims that Georgia’s Western partners never considered giving Russia WTO membership without Georgia agreeing.

He said this December 2 at a session in the Georgian parliament between three committees; the foreign relations, Europe integration and diaspora relations committees.

Bokeria presented details of the negotiations together with Sergi Kapanadze, Deputy Foreign Minister.

“Some speculation has taken place about this topic; including from [Russia’s foreign minister] Sergey Lavrov. The principle position of our partner countries is that there should be a consensus and not to create some other precedent,” Bokeria added.
