TBILISI, DFWatch – Campaigners in Georgia welcome an initiative by the government to make political actors commit to not use or incite violence during the election campaign.

The campaign This Affects You Too thinks that such an agreement between political parties will promote fair and peaceful conduct of elections.

The ruling National Movement party suggested having a declaration of principles that all parties should sign.

Tamar Chugoshvili, one of the spokespersons of the campaign, and the head of Georgian Young Lawyer’s Association, said that the principles of cooperation should not be regulated by only one political party and other parties should be involved in the events too.

The campaign believes that all political parties should agree that there will be no violence, aggression and intimidation of journalist, especially on Election Day.

According to a study by ISFED, the number of violenct incidents and intimidation has increased in the election period.

The campaigners are ready to take a role as mediators between the parties.
