TBILISI, DFWatch — The crime situation in Georgia stabilized in December, as the number of criminal incidents has been significantly reduced, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

During a visit to a family who had been attacked by robbers, President Mikheil Saakashvili Sunday called on the police to work in emergency mode. This is the first time the president has visited a crime victim family.

The Interior Ministry’s in its response statement Monday said that the burglary of the Mamedov family has led to several criminal investigations and all five criminals have been detained. The stolen cash and jewelry will be returned to the family in a few days.


The statement says that six out of ten crimes in November and December 2012 in this region are under investigation. Local police in the Kvemo Kartli region also investigated crimes which took place in September and October.

There were 471 burglaries registered in Kvemo Kartli from 2003 to 2012, according to Interior Ministry, and 251 of them were investigated.

The Ministry informs that the new leadership has conducted complex and prophylactic measures and as a result, the crime situation is more stable in December, criminal incidents have been reduced, not only in Kvemo Kartli, but in the whole country.
