TBILISI, DFWatch–The Georgian Interior Ministry appeals to Tbilisi City Court asking for it to issue a court order requiring the Tbilisi mayor to appear for questioning.

Mayor Ugulava has been asked repeatedly to come to the police and talk about the violence outside the National Library February 8, but the mayor has used his immunity and refused to appear. Instead, he has invited investigators to come to his office.

The ministry has warned him several times that it will ask the court to make him come in for questioning, and today came through on the threat.

Yesterday, Ugulava stated that he will obey the court’s decision and explained that the reason he has refused to be questioned is that he and other activists and members of the National Movement Party were themselves affected by the February 8 incident.
