TBILISI, DFWatch – Only one of Abkhazian de facto president Alexander Ankvab’s guards died after Wednesday’s assassination attempt.

In the immedate aftermath of the shootout, a spokesman for Ankvab was quoted by Russian news agency Itar-Tass saying that a second of the leader’s guards had died while in hospital.

“Three security officers seriously injured, one of them died on the spot, the second died later in hospital,” Itar-Tass Wednesday quoted Christian Bzhenia, spokesman for Ankvab, as saying. This information later turned out to be incorrect.

Itar-Tass is now reporting the same as Interfax and Ria Novosti: that only one of the guards died as a result of the attack.
