TBILISI, DFWatch – Parliamentarians in Georgia are awaiting the testimony of the chairman of the country’s Chamber of Control, a controversial agency recently vested with broad extrajudicial powers.

Parliament will hear Chamber chairman Levan Bezhashvili explain what’s going on, after opposition parties started complaining of a wave of interrogations in parts of the country far away from Tbilisi.

Bazhashvili is expected to appear at 17:00. Speaker of Parliament Davit Bakradze says according to Interpressnews that the Chamber of Control’s recent measures have raised questions in society, and therefore it is approapriate that the Chamber comes to parliament to shed light on the development. Parliamentarians should be informed of whether the Chamber’s measures were lawful and proper, Bakradze said.
