TBILISI, DFWatch–By-elections are held three places in Georgia on Saturday to fill seats in parliament that became vacant as the Ivanishvili government took power last year.

The three election districts are, Nadzaladevi in the capital Tbilisi, and Samtredia and Baghdati, two towns in the Imereti region in western Georgia.

The three vacant seats belong to the current energy minister, justice minister and chief prosecutor.

International organizations including OSCE’s ODIHR mission, International Republican Institute (IRI), representatives of EU and National Democratic Institute (NDI) will observe today’s election.

Three local non-governmental organizations that routinely study election related issues published a report that evaluates the period leading up to the by-election. They conclude that the period has been calm and competitive in all three districts.

Voters were not restricted from attending political gatherings and express their views, according to the report.

The Central Election Commission today plans to hold briefings every two hours to update the public about the election: at 08:30, 10:30, 12:30. 15:30, 17:30 and 20:30.
