TBILISI, DFWatch – A group working on election fairness demands that a case of bribery in one of the regions of Georgia is investigated.

International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED) calls on law enforcement bodies to investigate a case of bribery in the Dusheti region 54 km northeast of Tbilisi.

According to an information service working in the region, Zurab Otiashvili, majoritarian candidate of the ruling party gave 500 GEL to one voter.

Zurab Otiashvili confirms this and claims that he only helped the person because he is blind. The person who got the money and several eyewitnesses also confirm what is being reported.

Georgia is to hold a parliamentary election on October 1. According to a recently reworked criminal code, bribery of voters is a crime and is punished by up to three years in jail or a fine.

ISFED demands that the case is investigated immediately.
