TBILISI, DFWatch — Catherine Ashton, EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, visits Georgia.

Her one day visit includes meetings with President Mikheil Saakashvili, Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanisvhili and Foreign Affairs Minister Maia Panjikidze.

The main issues during Catherine Ashton’s visit are EU-Georgian relations and the country’s domestic politics.

One of the foreign policy chief’s challenges during her stay was likely to be how the EU should relate to a Georgia which in recent weeks has been represented on the international scene by both its president and its prime minister, each with a different interpretation of a series of criminal cases against officials connected to Saakashvili.
