TBILISI, DFWatch – NATO’s Deputy Secretary General is to visit Georgia on June 28.

Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Davit Jalaghania announced at a briefing in Tbilisi Monday that Alexander Vershbow will arrive for a two day visit to participate in a defense and security conference, which will be held in the port city Batumi.

Jalaghania said Vershbow’s visit is a ‘continuation of NATO-Georgia cooperation and the very successful Chicago summit.’

He added that within the frames of the visit there will be talks about Georgia’s participation in NATO’s ISAF operation in Afghanistan and Georgia’s more general role in Afghanistan operations today and beyond 2014.

“Vershbow’s visit is great news and should be seen as a continuation of the existing dialogue between Georgia and the alliance,” Jalaghania said.
