TBILISI, DFWatch–The Ministry of Refugees will provide 85 refugee families with apartments on Monday.

The apartments, which are located on Kvareli Street in Tbilisi, were distributed to families of internally displaced persons (IDPs) by use of secret ballot, to decide the floor and and size of each family’s flat.

Out of the 85, 31 are one-room, 44 are two-room and 10 are three-room flats.

According to the Ministry of Refugee, more than 1 000 IDP families from Abkhazia and South Ossetia will receive apartments by the end of the year.

In his second term, President Saakashvili launched a policy of moving refugees away from Tbilisi by offering them housing in the regions. The policy was unpopular and led to protests.
